How to Cancel Your Lemlist Subscription (Without Losing Your Data)
Canceling Lemlist takes about four clicks. The short version: click your workspace name in the bottom-left, open Plans & billing, hit Manage plan, then Cancel. Billing stops at the end of your current cycle and your data stays put.
Leaving well takes more care than that. There's an export checklist you should run before you cancel, and one of those exports (your unsubscribe list) protects you legally long after you've moved on.
No hard feelings toward Lemlist here. It's a strong email tool. But people outgrow tools and budgets get consolidated. When that day comes, you want a clean exit.
What canceling actually does (and doesn't do)
Canceling and deleting are different things in Lemlist, and mixing them up causes most of the panic you'll read about in forums.
Canceling stops the renewal. You keep full access until the end of the billing cycle you already paid for. If you cancel on day 10 of a monthly plan, you keep sending until day 30. After that, the account drops to a free plan: you can log in and see your campaigns, leads, and templates, but you can't send.
Your data stays. Lemlist keeps campaigns, leads, templates, and activity logs indefinitely after a cancellation. Nothing is wiped.
Deleting is a separate, manual request to their privacy team by email. It permanently removes everything within 7 days and cannot be undone. Only do this if you want the data gone for good (or need it gone, under GDPR).
There's also an escape hatch: an "Undo cancellation" button sits in Plans & billing until your billing period ends. Cancel today, change your mind next week, nothing lost.
Export these three things first
You could skip this section, since the data survives cancellation. Don't. Once you're on the free plan, you'll be rebuilding your outreach somewhere else, and you want these files local, not locked behind a login you'll stop checking.
1. Your lead lists
Per campaign: open the campaign, go to the Lead list tab, tick the top checkbox to select everyone, and click Export as .CSV in the toolbar that appears. The file lands in your downloads with the campaign name on it.
Repeat for every campaign that matters. Tedious, yes. There's no global one-click export in the UI.
2. Your campaign results
On the Campaigns page, click the report (bar chart) icon on each campaign. This export is the audit trail: sent, opened, replied, bounced, per lead per step. You'll want it for two reasons. It's your proof of performance if you report to clients, and it tells the next tool which leads were already contacted, so you don't cold-email someone you messaged three weeks ago.
3. Your unsubscribe list
This is the one everyone forgets, and it's the one with legal teeth. People who unsubscribed in Lemlist opted out of hearing from you, not from Lemlist. If you rebuild your lists in a new tool without carrying the suppression list over, you will eventually email someone who opted out. That's a spam complaint waiting to happen, and complaint rates are the fastest way to burn a new domain.
Lemlist exposes this through their API: the unsubscribes/exports/contacts endpoint returns every unsubscribed contact as a CSV. You'll need your API key (Settings, then Integrations). One request, one file, saved.
The actual cancellation steps
- Log in and click your workspace name in the bottom-left corner.
- Select Plans & billing.
- Scroll to your current plan and click Manage plan.
- Click Cancel on the plan.
- Confirm. They'll ask for feedback; it's optional.
- You'll get a confirmation showing the exact date your subscription ends.
That's it for the subscription. Your campaigns keep running until the period ends, so if you want sending to stop now, pause each active campaign manually. There is no account-wide pause.
Gotchas that catch people
- lemwarm is billed separately. Canceling your Lemlist plan does not automatically cancel lemwarm (their warmup product). Check Plans & billing for it specifically, or you'll keep paying for warmup on a tool you left.
- Unpaid invoices block the cancel button. If there's an outstanding invoice, settle it first; the Cancel option stays disabled until you do.
- Admin only. Regular workspace members can't cancel. If the button isn't there, you're not the admin.
- No credit when switching plans. Moving between Lemlist plans charges the new plan at full price. If you're canceling to downgrade, time it to your cycle end.
- Charged after you canceled? It happens. Email their support with the invoice number, your cancellation date, and the charge date. Their billing team reviews and refunds when it's warranted.
Where your sequences go next
Here's the part nobody writes about: the migration itself. You now have three CSVs and a dozen sequences in your head. What you do next matters more than which tool you pick.
The honest question first. If you're leaving because replies dried up, moving the same single-channel email sequences to a different sender won't fix that. The same 5-step email cadence performs about the same everywhere. What actually moves reply rates is showing up in more than one place.
Say you're an agency running outbound for a B2B client. A 200-lead email-only sequence at a typical 2-3% reply rate gets you 4 to 6 conversations. Run the same list as email plus LinkedIn (a connection request, a view, then a message referencing the email), and 8-12% is a realistic band. Same leads, same offer. The difference is that a LinkedIn touch is personal in a way a third follow-up email never is.
That's the migration CampaignStack is built for. Import your exported lead CSVs, and your unsubscribe list stays enforced from day one. Rebuild your Lemlist sequences as workflows that mix email and LinkedIn steps, with every LinkedIn send budget-capped and review-gated so your account stays safe. You see the whole sequence on a canvas instead of a settings page.
Import the CSVs you just exported and rebuild your outreach as workflows that combine email and LinkedIn.
Rebuild your sequences, multi-channelAnd if you're rebuilding a lot of automations: one-click imports from tools like Lemlist are on our roadmap. Until then, the manual path above is the whole job, and it usually fits in an afternoon.
Takeaway
Export your leads, your campaign results, and your unsubscribe list before you cancel. Then cancel from Plans & billing, check lemwarm separately, and pause active campaigns if you want sending stopped immediately. Your data survives on the free plan, but your suppression list only protects you if it makes the move with you.
