The differences below are real, and they end in wiring the tools together rather than choosing.

Pick Clay when

Data is the job. If you need enrichment logic nobody sells off the shelf, provider waterfalls with per-column credit control, or an agent that answers a research question no database stores, Clay has no real rival and this page will not pretend otherwise. Teams who live in the table, push rows to their CRM and run email from their own mailboxes get a lot of machine for the money, and the free tier is a real product.

Pick CampaignStack when

The job is delivery on accounts that have to survive it. LinkedIn runs server-side in a persistent browser per account with per-action budgets and automatic risk pauses, every AI draft faces a critic before a human review queue, and a reply reroutes the lead instead of the sequence marching on. Clay does not compete for this job. It feeds it: a Clay automation posts qualified rows straight into a workflow's webhook source, and a webhook step here can post leads back to a Clay table.

01 · Credit Where Due

Where Clay is genuinely strong

Clay turned enrichment from a vendor decision into a column formula, and the category has been copying it ever since. One column can try more than 150 providers in a fallback chain with credit control per provider, which is why agencies that sell data quality run Clay even when they run nothing else from it. Claygent extends that past databases: an agent reads the live web and answers the qualification question no provider sells, and the builder turns a good prompt into a reusable research step. Nothing in CampaignStack replaces that, and our own enrichment step, which calls providers in a fixed order, is not pretending to.

Its agent surface deserves credit too. Clay ships a public API, a CLI, and an MCP server that puts its providers and a team's saved workflows inside Claude, ChatGPT and Codex. The bet that ops teams will drive their stack through coding agents is the same one we made, and Clay is one of the few vendors in this comparison set that made it.

02 · The Delivery Gap

Nothing stands between the table and the send

Clay's sequencer is real sending: every plan includes it, mailboxes connect over OAuth or SMTP, warm-up is automatic and daily caps are adjustable per mailbox. For a data-first team adding email, that is a useful bundle. But the workflow its own docs describe is configure, then launch. The AI snippets that personalize each row are generated and sent; no documented pass critiques a draft, and no queue holds a doubtful one for a person. Quality control is you, reading the table, before the sequence starts.

LinkedIn does not exist in that pipeline at all. The sequencer is email only, and the pricing page's single LinkedIn mention is syncing ad audiences. In practice a Clay table pushes rows to a separate LinkedIn sender, at which point account safety, reply handling and draft quality all belong to whichever vendor received the row, under a second subscription and a second set of caps that Clay's own send limits know nothing about.

CampaignStack starts where the row ends. Each LinkedIn account runs in its own encrypted browser profile behind a static residential proxy with per-action-type budgets and an automatic pause on risk signals. Every draft, email included, faces a critic that reads the full brief and objects before a human review queue sees it. And when a lead replies, the router cancels the queued touches instead of letting step four land after the conversation started.

03 · The Real Relationship

Not a competitor. The layer before this one.

The versus in this page's URL is there because people search it. The working relationship is an integration: Clay builds and qualifies the row, CampaignStack runs the outreach, and webhooks connect the two inside any workflow. We wrote a separate page about the three-tool version of that stack, Clay plus n8n plus a sequencer; the two-tool version is tighter, because the seam is one webhook instead of a glue layer.

Inbound, a Clay webhook or HTTP API automation posts qualified rows to a workflow's webhook source, up to 100 leads per call, and they land as leads deduplicated on LinkedIn identity. Outbound, a webhook step in any workflow posts the lead to any URL at any point in the graph, and a Clay table's own webhook source is a URL, so a mid-sequence row can go back to Clay for a deeper pass. A dedicated Clay integration, with Clay as a first-class enrichment provider inside the cascade, is on the roadmap; the webhook wiring works today.

What moves is the outreach half: sessions, safety budgets, drafting with a critic, the review queue, reply handling. Clay keeps the job it is best at, and the person exporting CSVs between the two tools stops being part of the pipeline.

CampaignStack vs Clay: common questions

Does Clay automate LinkedIn outreach?

No. Clay's sequencer sends email only, on every plan, from mailboxes you connect over OAuth or SMTP. The only LinkedIn capability its pricing page lists is syncing ad audiences to LinkedIn, Meta and Google. Teams that want LinkedIn touches push rows from a Clay table to a separate LinkedIn sending tool, which then owns the account handling and its limits. CampaignStack runs connection requests, messages, InMail and engagement itself, in a persistent server-side browser per account.

Is CampaignStack a Clay alternative?

Not really, and this page says so. Clay is a data workbench and CampaignStack is an outreach system; they sit at different layers of the same stack. Clay's provider waterfalls and Claygent research agents have no equivalent here, and our enrichment step does not compete with them. The slice that overlaps is email sequencing with AI snippets, and if what pulled you to a Clay alternative search was getting messages out rather than building data, that half is what CampaignStack covers: sourcing, scoring, drafting with a critic, human review, LinkedIn and email sending, and reply routing at $299 per workspace per month. The usual setup is both, connected over webhooks.

Clay has an MCP server too. What is different?

What the agent can reach. Clay's MCP server exposes its data providers, research agents and a team's saved workflows inside Claude, ChatGPT and Codex, with a CLI and public API alongside, and it is good at what it scopes: data work. CampaignStack's MCP server covers over 300 tools across sourcing, campaigns, drafting, the review queue, the inbox and admin, because the agent is expected to run the outreach itself, including the parts that touch a live LinkedIn account.

Can I migrate from Clay to CampaignStack?

The people move; the machinery does not. Export any table to CSV and import it here, or push rows in through the MCP API, and leads deduplicate on LinkedIn identity. Mailboxes reconnect to our Gmail sending, and LinkedIn accounts onboard with a session cookie in about two minutes each. What has no equivalent here is the workbench itself: waterfalls, table formulas and Claygent agents would need rebuilding as enrichment steps and signal watches, which cover less ground. Teams that depend on those usually keep Clay for data and stop at moving the outreach.
